I have been a communications consultant for a number of international organizations. My long-term clients have included the World Economic Forum and International Chamber of Commerce, the UNCTAD/WTO International Trade Centre, the Swiss Science Council's magazine Vision, IUCN–The World Conservation Union, the United Nations Environment Programme and Rolex Awards for Enterprise.
I have long experience in journalism of all kinds. I have worked for Reuters News Agency, The Guardian, Swiss Radio International and other media enterprises.
I was also joint owner and Managing Editor of CROSSLINES Global Report, a newsjournal on humanitarian issues, and co-founder of the NGO International Centre for Humanitarian Reporting (succeeded by Media Action International). I continue to maintain the crosslines.ch website. I am currently Deputy Editor of Global Geneva Insights, a website and print magazine.
I have designed a number of websites, teaching materials for strategy-makers on trade issues and tourism (Internet and CD-ROM based), and different kinds of publications. I have also been communications advisor for a number of projects targeted to executive-level officials and higher.
I have a PhD (magna cum laude, awarded August 2004) from the European Graduate School (www.egs.edu) in Media and Communications. I am still Advisor on Innovative Journalism to EGS and continue to publish research and philosophical analysis on new media issues.
My first degree was a BSc (first-class honours) from the UK's Open University, where I also received a Diploma in Environment and Development. After that I took an MA (Merit Pass) in Mass Communications from Leicester University (Centre for Mass Communications Research, UK).
In addition to my research activities, I taught Communications and Media Studies for M.A. students at the International University Geneva as an adjunct professor and a course on cultural diversity in the media for undergraduates at Webster University in Geneva.
I have certificates in Web design for educational purposes with XML (University of Geneva, December 2004), CSS and Javascript (Virtual University, December 2005).
